June to September
Delhi to Ladakh is India's ultimate adventure journey. You can fly from Delhi to Leh in just 1h 20m (book well in advance as seats are limited and expensive), or embark on the legendary Manali-Leh highway drive — 479km of the world's most breathtaking mountain roads. The flight is quick but pricier than the road route; the road trip takes 2 days via Manali or 1 day via Srinagar-Kargil. Acclimatisation is essential — spend the first day in Leh resting to avoid altitude sickness (Leh is at 3,500m). Oxygen cylinders are available at pharmacies. Inner Line Permits are required for areas near the border — apply through the official Ladakh Tourism portal. The main attractions are Pangong Lake (a 5-hour drive from Leh), Nubra Valley (via Khardung La), and the ancient Buddhist monasteries. Road trip season is June–September; flights operate year-round but weather can cause cancellations in winter.
