The first of those decisions is the airport. Goa is served by two: Goa International Airport at Dabolim (GOI), in the central-south part of the state, and Manohar International Airport at Mopa (GOX), in the north. A search for Goa can return either, and a round trip can even mix them. If your stay is around Anjuna, Vagator, Morjim, or elsewhere in North Goa, GOX often shortens the ground transfer; for Colva, Palolem, and the southern beaches, GOI is usually closer. Neither rule is absolute — a late-night landing with no confirmed transfer can undo the geography — so treat the airport code as part of the fare comparison, not an afterthought.

From Delhi, flights leave from Indira Gandhi International Airport. Terminal assignments change by airline and season, so read the terminal printed on your ticket rather than assuming the one you used last time, and allow for Delhi's road traffic when planning departure-day timing.

Delhi to Goa demand is strongly seasonal. The comfortable beach season runs roughly November through February, and inside it the sharpest spike is the stretch from Christmas week through the first days of January, when leisure demand from across North India lands on the same handful of departures. Long weekends built around public holidays create smaller, shorter spikes through the season.

The monsoon months, roughly June to September, are the opposite: fares are usually softer, beaches are quieter, and some shacks and water-sport operators close. A monsoon Goa trip is a legitimate, lower-priced trip — it is simply a different one, greener and wetter, and you should plan indoor and food-led days rather than a swimming holiday.

October and March are the shoulder windows. Weather is generally usable, the year-end crowds are absent, and fares tend to sit between the extremes. If your dates are flexible by even a week, comparing a shoulder-window date against a peak date is one of the highest-value checks on this route.

For ordinary weeks in the season, starting your comparison two to six weeks before departure is a reasonable rhythm on busy domestic leisure routes: enough time for airlines to have released realistic fares, not so late that only the expensive inventory remains. Last-minute bookings inside the final week are usually the most punishing on peak dates.

For Christmas and New Year travel, the calculus changes. Seats for the last week of December get absorbed far earlier than for a normal week, so travelers with fixed year-end dates should begin comparing months ahead and treat any reasonable fare as bookable rather than waiting for a drop that may never come. The route's popularity means empty-seat discounting close to departure is rare in that window.

On a beach trip, the arrival hour decides how much of the first day you keep. A morning departure from Delhi can have you at your stay by early afternoon, which effectively buys a half day at the destination. A late-evening arrival means a night-time transfer, a hotel that may charge for early check-in the next day, and a first day that starts tired.

The same logic applies in reverse. A very early return flight from Goa forces a pre-dawn hotel departure and a taxi at an hour when options are thinner and pricier. If two fares are close, choose the itinerary that protects your usable hours; if the lower-priced one costs you half a day, it is not really cheaper.

Domestic fares in India are commonly sold in families: a stripped-down fare with cabin baggage only, and progressively more flexible or inclusive tiers. Beach trips tend to involve more luggage than city breaks — and often a heavier bag on the way back — so check what the specific fare includes before comparing headline numbers. Adding a checked bag at the airport is consistently the most expensive way to buy it.

If your plans have any uncertainty, also read the change and cancellation rule for the exact fare, not the airline's general policy. On a leisure route where plans shift with leave approvals and group decisions, a slightly costlier fare with a low change fee can beat the lowest fare with a punitive one.

Once the flight is fixed, plan the ground leg the same day: a confirmed transfer or a clear taxi plan from the airport you actually land at, and a stay whose check-in time matches your arrival. North Goa and South Goa are different trips — busier nightlife and markets in the north, quieter beaches in the south — and the flight decision and the stay decision work best made together.
